Skybreak Defenders

★★★★★ 4.7 Editor rating

Skybreak Defenders is the one that reminded me why I love this genre. The core twist is fusion: place two matching towers next to a third and they merge into something nastier. Suddenly maze layout is about setting up combos, not just blocking lanes.

The wave design is excellent. Enemies come in mixes that punish one-note strategies, so you're constantly rebalancing what to build. There's a satisfying rhythm to spotting a threat two waves early and quietly preparing for it.

Difficulty scales hard on the later maps, and a couple of them feel tuned for players who've memorised the fusion chart. Fair enough — it's a strategy game. This is the title in the catalogue I've sunk the most hours into, and I don't regret one of them.
